Utah Insurance Prelicensing Information

Updated April 25, 2025

Requirements Overview

Utah does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, EducUp highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

How to Get Your License

1

Prelicensing Course (Optional)

(optional) Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam.

2

Schedule Your Exam

Schedule your exam online with your state’s testing provider, Prometric or call (888) 226-8740. Your exam may be taken at a physical Prometric examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. Exam fees must be paid at the time of reservation. If you need to reschedule your exam, you must do so at least 24 hours prior to your testing appointment or you will forfeit your examination fee.

3

Take Your Exam

Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you a valid form of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.), one of which must contain a photograph and a signature. (if not, you must present two identification cards: one with your photo and one with your signature). You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. For more detailed information about the security measures that will be taken during your testing appointment, please read and review the candidate bulletin offered at Prometric. If you pass, you will receive a successful score report. If you do not pass, you will receive a report indicating your strengths and weaknesses by examination type.

NOTE: The State of Utah requires all individuals applying for a resident insurance license to be fingerprinted. Please read and review the candidate bulletin offered at Prometric for detailed information regarding the fingerprinting process. After passing the exam apply for your license at NIPR or through Sircon.

4

Maintain Your License

Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. EducUp offers CE courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.
