If you want to know about pre-licensing, visit [Pre-licensing Requirements](/en/state-insurance-requirements/pennsylvania). ### Courses Available Loading courses... ### Required Hours Producers licensed in Pennsylvania must complete 24 hours of CE every 2-year license term and for each license, at least 3 of the 24 required CE hours must be about Ethics. \- If licensed before 4/29/2025, you must complete the ethics requirement by 4/29/2026 or by the end of your current license period (whichever is later). \- If licensed on or after 4/29/2025, you must complete the ethics requirement by the end of your first license period. For Property and Casualty licensees, at least 2 of the 24 CE hours must be about flood insurance. The EducUp 3-hour course NFIP Flood insurance WILL satisfy this requirement. \- If licensed before 4/29/2025, you must complete the flood insurance requirement by 4/29/2026 or by the end of your current license period (whichever is later). \- If licensed on or after 4/29/2025, you must complete the flood insurance requirement by the end of your first license period. Producers must renew and have met all their CE requirements either before or on the expiration day of their license. The renewal date is every 2 years on your birthday. Licensees may carry over a maximum of 24 hours into the next license term. A course cannot be repeated for credit more than once in a 2-year licensing period. NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application. ### Category Restrictions Producers may take an approved course in any line of authority to obtain their Continuing Education credits, but it is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type. ### Special Training #### LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must hold a health and sickness and accident license and complete an initial 8 hours of a state approved Long-Term Care Training course. Producers must then complete a state approved 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2-year license term following the initial training. For those who sell Long-Term Care Partnership products, the initial 8-hour training must include 1 hour that is related to the Medicaid Assistance Program. #### FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING Pennsylvania licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance. #### ANNUITY SUITABILITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING Pennsylvania producers licensed on or after June 20, 2022 must complete a state approved 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course before their license renewal. The PA DOI requires that all producers with the life and fixed annuities or a variable life/variable line of authority, whether they plan to sell annuities or not, complete this training. Some carriers will require this training to be completed prior to selling or soliciting annuity products. Annuity best interest courses done for another state that adopted NAIC 2020 Annuity Model Law updates will be reciprocal with Pennsylvania. ### Course Presentation - PROGRESSIVE – Licensees must progress through the curriculum by topic. - CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better. - STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – EducUp requires that all Study by Topic quizzes be attempted and passed with at least a score of 70%. - ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam. ### Certificates of Completion Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to state within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. There is a state charge of $5.00 per course in order to report completions. This fee will be charged prior to accessing the certificate exam. ### Non-Resident Producers Non-residents are exempt from all CE requirements in Pennsylvania. A non-resident who has completed the initial long-term care training in another state with a substantially similar requirement will be deemed compliant with Pennsylvania’s requirement. ### CE Exemptions The following are exempt from Pennsylvania CE requirements: • Producers licensed prior to January 1, 1971, who have been continuously licensed without adding additional lines of authority • Producers whose only line of authority is a limited line • Surplus lines licensees • Non-resident insurance producers excluding title producers • Individuals exempted by the commissioner due to hardship or good cause such as disability or a medical condition • Individuals who first obtained licenses without examination under Section 609(c) of the Fraternal Benefit Societies Code and whose appointments are limited to fraternal benefit societies • Non-resident Public Adjusters who have completed their home state CE requirements ### License Renewal Licensees will renew their [license through Sircon](http://www.sircon.com/) and pay all renewal fees by the due dates or the license will lapse.
