Wisconsin ## Wisconsin Insurance Prelicensing Information Updated April 25, 2025 This information is for pre-licensing. If you want to know the continuing education requirements, visit [Continuing Education Requirements](/en/ce-state-requirements/wisconsin). ### Requirements Overview Wisconsin requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. Note: Combination Life & Health or Property & Casualty exams are not available in this state; therefore, there are no combined courses. You will need to complete your studies in individual courses: Life / Health or Property / Casualty. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. To earn your certificate of completion: To earn your certificate of completion: - Read every chapter and take the end-of-chapter quiz scoring 70% or better before progressing to the next chapter. - All chapters and quizzes must be completed in order and before the Certificate Exam may be accessed. - Spend a minimum of 20 hours studying per line of authority. - Complete and pass the Certificate Exam with a score of 70% or better with a proctor/disinterested third party present. The Certificate Exam must be proctored by an "impartial disinterested third party or currently licensed agent with no financial or family relationship to the candidate". The proctor must be physically present, supervise the duration of the exam, and follow all state proctoring rules. Your exam will be based on the Wisconsin exam outline, which can be found in PSI's Candidate Bulletin. Attention: Individuals being licensed for the first time must select both the general and state series labeled exams for the line of authority they wish to obtain. Exams labeled as state specific series tests are ONLY for individuals who were previously licensed with the same line of authority. Once you have completed your course and passed the Certificate Exam, EducUp will review and process your Certificate of Completion. Processing takes up to 2 business days and may be delayed for proctor validation. Once approved, your Certificate of Completion may be downloaded and printed from your EducUp account. You will need this certificate when you take your exam. Your exam may be taken at a physical PSI examination center or via a remote online proctored location. 4 #### Take and pass your state licensing exam On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid (non-expired) form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) which must contain your name and photograph. You must also bring your certificate of completion to the exam. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. You must get 70% correct to pass the examination. Your score will be displayed on screen at the end of the examination and a score report will be emailed to you. NOTE: Candidates taking a remotely proctored exam must select to end both the exam portion and survey portion of the test to receive your on-screen results and emailed score report. Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced.
