If you want to know the continuing education requirements, visit [Continuing Education Requirements](/en/ce-state-requirements/washington-dc). ### Requirements Overview District of Columbia does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, EducUp highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state's licensing exam. ### How to Get Your License 1 #### Complete Prelicensing Course (Optional) Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam. 2 #### Schedule Your Exam Schedule your exam with your state's testing provider online at [Pearson VUE](https://www.pearsonvue.com/us/en/dc/insurance.html) or call (800) 274-0610. There will be an exam fee. Please review the [candidate handbook here](https://www.pearsonvue.com/content/dam/VUE/vue/en/documents/publications/120900.pdf) for more information. 3 #### Take the Licensing Exam Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government issued identification (driver's license, passport, military I.D., etc.) one of which must contain a photograph and a signature. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. At the end of your exam, you will receive a score report marked "pass" or "fail." 4 #### Submit Fingerprints and Background Check After you pass your exam, you must submit to fingerprinting and a background check through Fieldprint prior to being granted a license.
