Montana ## Montana Insurance Prelicensing Information Updated April 25, 2025 This information is for pre-licensing. If you want to know the continuing education requirements, visit [Continuing Education Requirements](/en/ce-state-requirements/montana). ### Requirements Overview Montana does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, EducUp highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state's licensing exam. ### How to Get Your License 1 #### Step 1: (optional): Complete a prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam. 2 #### Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Pearson Vue ( https://home.pearsonvue.com/mt/insurance), at least 24 hours before your desired examination date. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online ( http://www.pearsonvue.com/) with Pearson Vue or call (800) 274-8906. To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact Pearson Vue at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee. Be aware that the state of Montana requires fingerprinting, and this can be completed at the Pearson Vue testing center. An Applicant Rights and Consent to Fingerprint Form must be filled out and emailed to: [csiappicantrights@mt.gov](mailto:csiappicantrights@mt.gov). This fingerprint card will be submitted to the Montana Department of Justice. On the day of your appointment, arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. You must bring with you two (2) forms of personal ID (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) Both must have your signature, and one of the two must have your photo. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. The computerized exam is scored immediately upon completion of parts I and II of the exam. 4 #### Step 4: Allow up to three business days for the exam results to transfer to the NIPR Online System.
