Indiana Insurance Prelicensing Information
Requirements Overview
Indiana requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. Discrepancies will delay the licensing process.

How to Get Your License
Complete and pass a prelicensing course
Step 1: Complete and pass a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance. Once you have completed and passed your course, EducUp will review and process your Certificate of Completion. Certificate processing takes up to 2 business days, after which you may download and print from your online EducUp account.
Schedule your exam
Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Pearson Vue, at least 24 hours in advance. First-time users are required to create an account online or may call (800) 274-2616. Your exam may be taken at a physical Pearson Vue examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. Your exam fee must be paid at the time of reservation.
Take and pass your state licensing exam
Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.), which must contain your name and photograph. You must also bring your certificate of completion with you. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. After the exam, you will be provided with your official score report.
Apply for your license
Step 4: Apply for your license. Indiana resident applicants may use the online application service at NIPR or SIRCON. Additional licensing application guidance may be accessed on the NIPR website. You will be required to retake your exam if you do not apply for your license within 6 months of passing your exam and completing your course.
Maintain your license
Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. EducUp offers continuing education courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.
