How to Get Your License

1

Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance.

Once you have completed your course, EducUp will issue a certificate of completion, which you may download and print from your online EducUp account. The certificate of completion is valid for four (4) years.

2

Step 2: Florida requires fingerprinting, and candidates can complete this requirement before the exam.

You may register, pay, and find locations on the DFS website or by calling (800) 528-1358. Additional licensing application guidance may be accessed here. Once your application is complete, the Florida Department of Financial Services will notify you of your license or registration status by email and through your MyProfile Account.

3

Step 3: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Pearson VUE.

The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at Pearson VUE or call (888) 274-2020. Your exam must be taken at a physical Pearson Vue examination center. Exam fees must be paid at the time of reservation. To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact Pearson VUE at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee. IMPORTANT NOTE: When you register for EducUp prelicensing courses, schedule your license exam, and/or apply for your license, it is important to use the same name that appears on the identification forms you plan to present at the time of your testing appointment.

4

Step 4: Take and pass your state licensing exam.

On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.), which must contain your name and photograph. If the ID presented has an embedded signature that is not visible (microchip), or is difficult or impossible to read, the candidate must present another form of acceptable identification that contains a visible signature. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. You will receive a photo-bearing score report that is marked “pass” or “fail.” You will receive a score report that includes the numeric score and diagnostic information. If you fail your exam, you will also receive reexamination instructions. Apply for your license. Florida resident applicants must use the online application service called MyProfile, accessible here.

5

Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements.

Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. EducUp offers continuing education courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.
