Requirements Overview

Colorado requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. How to Get Your License

1

Complete Approved Prelicensing Course

Enroll in and complete a Colorado-approved prelicensing education course through EducUp (Provider #50801). You must complete all 50 hours of coursework, pass all chapter quizzes with at least 70%, and successfully complete the proctored Certificate Exam with a minimum score of 70%. The Certificate Exam must be administered by a disinterested third party proctor. Upon completion, EducUp will automatically report your course completion to Pearson VUE and provide you with a certificate of completion.

2

Schedule Your Licensing Exam with Pearson VUE

After completing your prelicensing education, schedule your state licensing exam through Pearson VUE. You can schedule online at or by calling (800) 274-2616. When scheduling, you must provide EducUp's provider code: 50801. Pearson VUE offers both remote proctoring and in-person test center options. Be sure to schedule your exam within a reasonable timeframe after completing your education while the material is still fresh.

3

Take and Pass the State Licensing Exam

On exam day, you must bring two forms of valid, government-issued photo identification. Both IDs must display your signature and match the name on your exam registration. Arrive early to allow time for check-in procedures. The exam is computer-based, and you will receive your pass/fail results immediately upon completion. If you do not pass, you may retake the exam, but you must wait at least 24 hours between attempts.

4

Submit Your License Application

After passing your licensing exam, you must submit your license application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) at or through Sircon. Your application must be submitted within one year of passing your licensing exam. If you do not apply within this timeframe, you will be required to retake both the prelicensing education course and the state licensing exam. Complete all required sections of the application and pay the applicable licensing fees.

5

Maintain Your License with Continuing Education

Once licensed, you must complete Colorado's continuing education requirements during each licensing period to maintain your license in active status. Requirements vary by line of authority. EducUp offers continuing education courses to help you meet these requirements. Failure to complete continuing education by your renewal deadline may result in license suspension or termination.
