Alabama ## Alabama Insurance Prelicensing Information Updated July 17, 2024 This information is for pre-licensing. If you want to know the continuing education requirements, visit [Continuing Education Requirements](/en/ce-state-requirements/alabama). ### Requirements Overview Alabama does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, EducUp highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state's licensing exam. ### How to Get Your License 1 #### Step 1: (optional) Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam. Schedule your exam with your state's testing provider, the Alabama Department of Insurance in partnership with the University of Alabama. Registration must be completed online at [training.ua.edu](https://training.ua.edu/alabama-insurance-pre-licensing-exams). Remote testing may be available for certain exams. Online Testing exams can be taken anytime at your convenience once the prelicensing certificate and driver's license have been uploaded and approved. Please wait 24-48 business hours after registering to receive an email invite from [alabamasupport@adjusterpro.com](mailto:alabamasupport@adjusterpro.com) to start the online testing process. Testing sites are located in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery. Once registered, a testing appointment may not be cancelled. The exam fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable. You must go back online and re-register for the exam. 2 #### Step 2: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you one valid form of government issued identification (driver's license, passport, military I.D., etc.) that must contain your name and photograph. Once you have completed your examination you will be made aware of your results. Examination results may take up to three days to appear on the Alabama Department of Insurance's website. 3 #### Step 3: Apply for your license. Alabama resident applicants must use the online application service at [nipr.com](https://www.nipr.com) and the website will guide you through the application process. The state of Alabama requires fingerprinting through the vendor FieldPrint. You should seek to get fingerprinted after passing the state exam and one day before applying for the license.
