Required Hours

North Carolina licensed producers and adjusters must take 24 hours of continuing education, 3 hours of which must be in Ethics, every 2 years. The renewal date is every 2 years on the last day of your birth month (based on licensee’s month and either an odd or even year of birth). Excess credit hours can be carried over to the next renewal period, but Flood or Ethics credits will carry over as general credit only. A course may NOT be taken for credit more than once within the 2-year license term.

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

Category Restrictions

Producers may take an approved course in any line of authority to obtain their CE credits, but it is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type.

Special Training

FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING

North Carolina Property/Casualty, Personal Lines or Adjuster licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a 3-hour NFIP approved course on Flood Insurance in their first compliance period and then again every 4 years thereafter. Credit earned from an approved Flood insurance training course may also apply to the agent's overall CE requirements.

ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING

North Carolina licensed producers must complete a state approved one-time 4-hour Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products. The EducUp Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course satisfies this requirement.

LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING

Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must complete a state approved, one-time 8-hour Long-Term Care Training course. Producers must then complete a 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2 years following the initial completion of the 8-hour training. * Resident licensees who satisfy the training requirements of another state that are similar to North Carolina's law will be considered compliant with these requirements only if the insurance company chooses to recognize and accept the training completed in another state. Applicants must be licensed in Medicare Supplement/Long-Term Care before completing this training and selling LTCP policies.
