## Kentucky Insurance Continuing Education Courses and Requirements

### Required Hours

Kentucky producers and adjusters are required to take 24 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of Ethics, every 2-year license term.

The renewal date occurs every 2 years on the last day of your birth month. Licensees born in odd-numbered years renew in odd-numbered years, and licensees born in even-numbered years renew in even-numbered years.

Up to 12 credit hours of excess CE may be carried over to the next renewal period. Excess hours in ethics will carry forward as general credit. Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 2-year license term.

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

### Category Restrictions

Licensees must take at least 6 hours of credit for each line of authority in which they are currently licensed, 3 hours in Ethics, and any remaining credits can be taken in any category to obtain their CE credits. It is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type.

\- The license term is the last day of the producer's birth month, every 2 years.  
\- Licensees with even-numbered licenses will renew in even years and licensees with odd-numbered licenses will renew in odd years.

Producers may carry over 10 credit hours, maximum, into the next renewal cycle. No carryover allowance is allowed for adjusters. You may NOT repeat courses for credit more than once in a 2-year period (completion dates must be at least 24 months apart).

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

### Special Training

#### LONG-TERM CARE PARTNERSHIP TRAINING

Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must complete an initial 8 hours of state-approved Kentucky Long-Term Care Training. Producers must then complete a 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2-year license term in order to stay in compliance.

#### FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING

Kentucky licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance.

#### ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING

Kentucky licensed producers must complete a state approved one-time 4-hour Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products. The EducUp Annuity Best Interest course satisfies this requirement.

### Course Presentation

-   CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.
-   STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – It is recommended that all Study by Topic Quizzes are passed with a 70% or better.
-   ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.

### Certificates of Completion

Your certificate of completion will be available for download/print immediately after course completion. Completions are reported to the Kentucky Department of Insurance twice every business day. Please keep a copy of each certificate of completion in your files for at least 5 years.

### Non-Resident Producers

Non-resident producers are not required to take CE in Kentucky if they have completed CE in their home state and remain in good standing.

LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING – A non-resident may take any 8-hour NAIC approved course in any licensed state.

ANNUITY BEST INTEREST CERTIFICATION TRAINING – For non-residents, Annuity Best Interest Training courses completed in any other state based on the NAIC 2020 Annuity Model Law updates will reciprocate with the Kentucky requirement.

### CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Kentucky CE requirements:

-   Producers who hold limited lines of authority
-   Producers who have not been licensed for a full year by the CE compliance date
-   Non-resident licensees who meet the requirements of their home states
-   Producers who hold a license for the sole purpose of receiving renewals or deferred commissions and providing the office with support affidavit
